Human pets!
I know that the adoption of a child who is an orphan is a great thing and can benefit both the childless couple and child. The disturbing trend that I've noticed lately has been celebrities adopting children from foreign lands. Madonna just picked up her child and Angelina Jolie has adopted a couple of children. I see this as a way to get publicity, yes it great that it draws attention to poor countries, but it also makes it very trendy to go shopping in a country that has massive poverty and buy a kid " look at me, I'm cool as Madonna and Angelina!" Didn't they call it slavery?

Regardless of the argument that they are doing it just to be cool (which...is an interesting argument), isn't it great that they are helping someone out?
My point is that the money and attention that these big stars are bringing to bear on this problem only benifits the single child where the money can could have been spent to build a school or buy medicine.
What about the orphans here in North America?
So, what you're saying is that people with money shouldn't take an orphan in at all, they should use this money for the greater good, like to build a school or provide medicine.

As for the orphans here in North America...well I can't really comment on the living standards for orphans in North America as I don't know what they are. But if I were to adopt an orphan, I may very well think about adopting one that was living in the harshest living conditions. Don't get me wrong...the Palmer would take in a Canadian any day of the week, but I can see people's reasons for helping out orphans that live in harsh living conditions.
The main point that I'm making is that the people who are stars are adopting children from third world nations to show how good they are and boost their image. take Madonna for example. the child she adopted isn't an orphan. Maddox the child that Angelina Joli adopted isn't an orphan, in fact the Mother of the child sold it because she couldn't afford to raise it. Will this start a human trade of children? I can see it happening!
So what you're saying is that people should focus on bringing orphans in their home before going after families who can't raise their child properly (because at the very least, they still have a family). That makes sense.
Can't say I really follow anything to do with celebrities so your information has been enlightening! Who would have thought Madonna bought this kid to boost her image! I can't believe she said that. That is horrible. Who does she think she is?
Good point Sammy! I've hear that some of these orgnizations and disaster relief funds after they take care of the costs of running the buisness only 10% actually get to the people who really need it.
Where are you from Sammy? I've been to a few Northern towns and it is appaling that these people are Canadians and are treated like this or basically forgotten!
